FAQ

Pairing & setup

Getting your devices talking, permissions, and what “unpair” actually does.

How do I pair my phone and Mac?
Open ClipHop on both devices and tap Pair. On the Mac, a QR code and a 6-digit code appear. From the phone, either scan the QR code or enter the code. Both devices run a cryptographic handshake, then show you a matching fingerprint to confirm. See the full walkthrough on the Pair page.
What permissions does ClipHop need?
Bluetooth on both devices. On Android, the foreground-service permission (to stay connected while the screen is off) and notifications permission on Android 13+. On Mac, optional Accessibility if you want Return in the panel to auto-paste history items into the previous app. No contacts, no location, no analytics.
What happens when I unpair a device?
Un-pairing sends a signed Unpair message to the other side. The peer forgets your device as soon as it receives the message (or on next reconnect if it was offline). Session keys in memory are cleared. Long-term identity keys stay — they’re not tied to any specific pair.
The 6-digit code changed — is something wrong?
No. The 6-digit code rotates every minute for security. If you missed the window, just reopen the Pair screen on the Mac to get a fresh code. The phone tolerates ±1 minute of skew.
